This Cuvée is essential to our French portfolio, as Nicolas Rolin is noted as the original founder of Château de la Crée in 1431. He and his wife Guigone de Salins would go on to create the historic Hospices de Beaune in 1443, a hospital for the less fortunate in Burgundy that continued as the hospital for the city of Beaune into the 1970s. The hospital is now a World Heritage building. Ken and Grace Evenstad are extremely proud to offer this renowned Cuvée under the Maison Evenstad label to pay homage to the former Chancellor to Phillip the Good, the Duke of Burgundy. This blend of Beaune Premier Cru sites is composed of noteworthy vineyards such as Les Cent Vignes, Les Grèves, En Genêts, Les Bressandes, and Teurons.

The 2017 vintage of this special cuvée has a formidably complex nose of black cherry, cedar and flinty graphite, with an even deeper layer of mushroom and earth as one explores. Super silky and smooth on the palate, it is similarly complex in the mouth, with blueberry, rosemary and bramble upon entry, but then it accelerates towards a savory quality reminiscent of delicately-spiced lamb. With its soft tannins, acidity and minerality working in harmony, and
its profound depth of expression, we believe that this is by far the best vintage yet of this offering.
