2018 Château de la Crée, Santenay Premier Cru Clos Faubard Pinot Noir
The southernmost village within the Côte d’Or, Santenay is located just south of Chassagne-Montrachet. East of the village around 900 feet in elevation stands Clos Faubard, a small vineyard of fewer than ten acres with soil that combines Jurassic rock, clay, and limestone. Château de la Crée’s parcel of these 64-year-old vines enjoy a south-southeast exposure, producing wines of substantial power and aging ability.
The 2018 Château de la Crée, Santenay Premier Cru Clos Faubard Pinot Noir gives effusive notes of black cherry and dark fruit on the nose. Soft and pleasing on the palate, this vintage has a weight and elegance to it, rounded out with fresh pomegranate, raspberry, and orange peel. An archetypal Pinot Noir, this wine delivers a silky-smooth finish with beautifully balanced acidity.
